Our Multidisciplinary Team

What Distinguishes Us is that We Aim to be Much More than Just a School

What distinguishes us from many other schools?

What distinguishes us from many other schools for young people with autism is that we aim to be much more than just a school. Our provision includes our own dedicated multidisciplinary team of in house clinical support to include psychology, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and music therapy. This makes us a unique multi-professional educational resource for pupils with an autistic spectrum disorder and we regard ourselves as remarkably well placed to meet and develop their global needs, not just their education.

The Eagle House Approach

The Eagle House Approach provides a framework to teaching and learning which is used across not only Eagle House School (Sutton), but all provisions within Eagle House Group. The Eagle House Approach provides a learning and social curriculum that is:-

  • communication based
  • visually based
  • sensory based
  • practical, functional, and meaningful
  • promoting experiential learning situations
  • intrinsically motivating

Speech and Language Therapy

At Eagle House School, we aim to integrate speech and language therapy into the classroom and work towards enabling our pupils with an autistic spectrum disorder to access learning opportunities. Communication is fundamental to learning and we therefore collaborate with the Class teachers to ensure communication is functional within the classroom.

We select activities that will engage, motivate and focus pupil's attention - a necessary skill for learning. We then work in partnership with the Class teacher to progress each pupil's communicative skills. Our resident therapists work with each class to develop pupils communication and attention abilities.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is concerned with a pupil's ability to function in their everyday life activities - self-care, school work, play, social interaction and independence. We will assess each pupil in terms of age appropriate life tasks and focus on areas that interfere with their ability to function in daily tasks.

At Eagle House School, we assess pupils' motor and sensory abilities and see how these are impacting on their functional abilities. We aim to:

  • improve pupils' over all motor abilities enabling participation in gross motor activities
  • improve their strength, muscle tone and endurance
  • improve their upright sitting posture at the desk for table top activities
  • improve their abilities to modulate sensory experiences
  • improve their abilities to register and respond to sensory information from their own bodies and their environment

Psychology Service

Psychology at Eagle House School (Sutton) works with a positive and pro-active approach. Working as part of the school's multidisciplinary team, input from psychology has a key role to play in understanding the pupil's strengths and also their areas of difficulty. Challenging and restrictive behaviours are carefully observed and monitored in order that the purpose of the underlying difficulty can be understood.

Music Therapy

Music therapy is grounded in the belief that everyone can respond to music. By improvising and creating music together a relationship is built as the Therapist helps the pupil to engage in active participation specifically to meet the needs and capabilities of the individual. Our Music Therapist provides opportunities for our pupils to enjoy creating music in an interactive and fun way.
